Should You Get Ready Every Day?!

Should You Get Ready Every Day?!

This one is for the women who don't actually have to get ready every day of the week. The girls who work from home, attend college classes in PJ's, stay-at-home mom's, I am talking to you!

Let's be honest...

Getting ready can be so annoying when you are home most of the week. I have worked from home for years and I can vouch for no makeup days in my pajamas. Somehow it feels like putting in the effort to get ready will just be pointless because no one will see us and it's ultimately a waste of time. But...I am going to try to change your mind by giving you a different perspective.

I believe that we SHOULD get ready daily.

You may think I am out of my mind. Especially, if you're a mom reading this who quite literally sees no one but her kids on a daily basis! Trust me, I get it!!

But what if you believed this statement:

You set the tone of your day by the way you treat yourself in the first 30 minutes after you wake up.

Mindset Matters.

Imagine this: You wake up late and you're frazzled because you have a work meeting over Zoom in 10 minutes. You rush out of bed, brush your teeth, throw on some mascara, throw on a decent shirt but keep on your pajama pants, pull your hair up so it doesn't look a mess, and grab a piece of toast on your way to open your computer.

How do you feel? Stressed.

How do you look? Decent. From the waist up, at least.

How does it feel the rest of the day will go? Probably chaotic or unproductive.

There are a lot of things that could be changed in that scenario - the first being not snoozing the 12 alarms you set. But there is something else. The way you look is often the way you feel.

If you know you look like a hot mess, you're going to feel like a hot mess, you're going to go about your day like a hot mess, and you're going to get to the end of the day wondering, "why am I such a hot mess?"

3 Reasons You SHOULD get ready every morning.

  1. Taking time to get dressed, fix your hair, and put on makeup will immediately boost your mood. Why? Because you did something for yourself. You were productive. And you actually enjoy looking at yourself! Therefore, your mindset for the day begins with productivity and a boost of serotonin through feeling achievement and satisfaction!
  2. You will be more likely to get more things done. When you get ready, you feel a sense of ambition to something with your accomplishment of getting ready! You may want to be seen by more people, do more tasks that require going in public, and overall just getting more done because you don't feel like a hot mess. When you don't get ready for your day, you feel lazy. You started your day off lazy, so the rest of your day is slow paced, distracted, and less efficient. Getting ready gives you a sense of pride for all the things you want to accomplish that day.
  3. There is a sense of structure and organization that brings our bodies to ease. Our human minds and bodies crave routine. When we wake up every morning and first take care of ourselves, we create a structure of routine that puts our minds and bodies in a good place. This organized routine will help us to feel purposeful on a daily basis.

Defining what "getting ready" means...

Alright, I have you believing that maybe it would help. But let's talk about what I mean by getting ready. I don't mean putting on a full face of makeup every day and dress or super glam outfit. Truly, I want you to define what getting ready means for you.

For me, it means not wearing leggings and a t-shirt every day. Instead, I opt for jeans and a cute tee and some sneakers! It also means washing my face putting on tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a little bronzer and blush, rather than going bare faced straight out of bed. It can be as simple as that!

When you look good, you feel good.

In almost every scenario, if you look good, you feel good. You're willing to get things done, engage with other people, get out of the house, and feel better in your mind and body. I promise that getting up a little earlier than usual to get ready is worth it. I have my best days when I take time to take care of myself in the mornings.

30 minutes! That's all you need. Set a goal to get ready at least 3 days of your Monday-Friday week! See if it changes your day. I can almost guarantee that it will!
